According to the Hurun Rich List, which tracks wealth in China, nearly half of the country’s 1,000 richest have seen their fortunes fall this year. The average wealth of the super-rich has dropped by 9% to $860 million (€665 million).

Asia-Pacific is now home to the most number of high net worth individuals, overtaking North America for the first time, thanks to growth in the number of wealthy in Japan and China.

Asia-Pacific is now home to the most number of high net worth individuals, overtaking North America for the first time, thanks to growth in the number of wealthy in Japan and China.

That’s according to the Asia-Pacific Wealth Report, released by Capgemini and RBC Wealth Management on 19 September, which said the number of people with more than $1 million in investable assets in the region hit 3.37 million last year.

That’s according to a study by research firm Scorpio Partnership and wealth management group Kaiser Partner, which found that 66% of the high net worth individuals questioned believed the 10 main “drivers of change” present long-term opportunities.

Research by the Boston Consulting Group found that the private financial wealth sector grew by 1.9% to $122.8 trillion (€991.7 million) last year, far slower than the 9.6% and 6.8% increases experienced in 2009 and 2010 respectively.

High net worth individuals in Malaysia, India, Indonesia and Thailand are not just the happiest in Asia, they are also confident of tripling their fortunes within the next 10 years.

That’s one of the findings of a survey of 2,800 rich individuals across nine countries in Asia, conducted by wealth industry consultant Scorpio Partnership.

The study found high net worth Malaysians, Indians, Indonesians and Thais as the “most content when it comes to their life-wealth balance”.

The fortunes of self-made billionaires are growing at a faster rate than the wealth of those who inherited their wealth.

That’s according to research by Societe Generale Private Banking and Forbes Insights, which found that, between 2008 and 2011, self-made billionaires saw their fortunes increase by 9%.

Mediaset, the group controlled by Silvio Berlusconi and his family, will reduce its stake in Endemol to less than 10%, as the production house attempts to restructure its €2.8 billion debt through a debt-for-equity swap.

The Netherlands-based company, which produces TV shows such as Big Brother and Deal or No Deal, said it reached an agreement in principle with more than two-thirds of its lenders that will see them reducing Endemol's debt in exchange for a stake in the business.
